Library cards are available to any adult residing in Montgomery County who can present identification that includes both their name and current address (such as a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license or ID card, lease agreement, or tax or utility bill from the past three months). There are no age restrictions for obtaining a library card, but children under the age of 18 need a parent’s signature on the registration form.

Yes, many library materials can be returned to any of the Montgomery County member libraries. Some exceptions depending upon the material type or collections may apply. See the list of special collections or contact your local public library to learn more.

Residents of Montgomery County are eligible for a free library card at their local library and/or at Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library. Your library card bears an Access Pennsylvania sticker. This sticker allows for borrowing materials at other Montgomery County libraries and physical items at most Pennsylvania public libraries.

Most PA residents are also eligible for a POWER library e-card, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh library card, and a Free Library of Philadelphia library card.

POWER Library offers access to thousands of full-text periodical articles, newspapers, photographs, medical information and more. Materials and resources are available for all age groups. POWER Library is offered as a service of Pennsylvania’s public libraries, school libraries and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
