On July 8, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was read on in Philadelphia, outside Independence Hall, for the first time to a large public gathering. Within days and weeks, similar readings were held across the state and around the colonies informing them that they had become “free and independent states”. Join us 250 years later on the library lawn for a re-enactment of the reading of the Declaration of Independence.
A Sign language interpreter will be provided. Popsicles and bottled water will be available as well as ways to participate in the reading itself! Bring a lawn chair or a blanket. The complete reading will take about 17-19 minutes. No registration required. Rain location will be in the Community Room which has a maximum occupancy of 49 people.
