Union Library Company of Hatboro Director Christine Law attended the June gathering for the Institute of Museum and Library Services Library Convening 250: Telling America’s Story.

“Library staff from small and rural libraries met on June 22–24, 2026, at the Graduate Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio, for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Library Convening 250: Telling America’s Story. This gathering was part of the nationwide America250 celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary. IMLS hosted the event to encourage librarians to share both national and local stories through creative programs. Pennsylvania librarians were invited to attend and talk about their activities that support civic engagement and patriotism.
During the convening, participants learned about capturing community stories from Lee Habeeb, host of the national storytelling program Our American Stories. They also heard from Rob Cullin, co‑founder of ReThinking Libraries, about how to build stronger community partnerships. Over the three days, attendees shared stories, exchanged ideas, and explored new ways libraries can help celebrate our nation’s history.”
When asked about her experience, Law said, “Attending the IMLS Library Convening 250: Telling America’s Story provided a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with other small and rural libraries from across the country. I gained valuable information on grants, programs, events, etc. which will help our library community to move forward. PA library directors also had the opportunity to meet with our state librarian and discuss ideas to promote America 250 events and more historical programs throughout the year.
I was chosen to do an interview about what libraries meant to America as well as what we in Hatboro were doing to celebrate and promote America 250 activities. My interview was one of the ones spotlighted at the closing ceremonies. It was quite an honor to be among so many talented and experienced industry colleagues. It reminded me why I chose to take this position and was just the shot in the arm I needed to rejuvenate from burn out.”
